Placing ESD protect devices for high-speed signal lines will affect waveforms.
When ESD protection devices are placed on the differential signal lines, the symmetry between P/N signal lines may be disrupted, causing Electro Magnetic Interference (EMI) and deterioration of waveforms.
To avoid this, take care to maintain the symmetry between P/N signal lines while doing your design, e.g. by using as few stubs as possible on the trace.
