News THine Announces Mass-Production of New Ultralow-Power-Consuming and General Purpose Redriver Product Handling 5Gbps High-Speed Signal

2018.03.06 Release

-General purpose small-packaged redriver product with dual-channel signal-conditioning function-

TOKYO (March 6, 2018) – THine Electronics, Inc. (JASDAQ: 6769), the global leader in high-speed serial interface and provider of mixed-signal LSI, will start, from March 2018, mass-production and delivery of new ultralow-power-consuming and general purpose redriver product “THCX222R05” that secures dual-channel signal integrity*1 for 5Gbps high-speed signal.

For recent interface realizing high-speed transmission of large volume of data, CML (Current Mode Logic) is used for physical layer of high-speed differential transmission.  Actually, examples of high-speed transmission interface with CML used in the market include THine’s high-speed transmission technology V-by-One® HS, USB3.1, and DisplayPort*2, and transmission rate is about 5Gbps.  While these types of high-speed transmission interface provide transmission of large volume of data, designers of transmission line system face the common problem of how to secure signal integrity for high-speed signal of about 5Gbps.

The most remarkable feature of “THCX222R05” is that dual-channel signal-conditioning function*3 for high-speed transmission interface with CML of about 5Gbps is incorporated in small 30-pins QFN (Quad Flat package (2.5mm x 4.5mm).  This feature improves signal quality only by adding this device with small area to high-speed transmission interface line with CML for which user wishes to improve signal integrity.  Gain of equalizer, which is signal conditioning function of this device, can be switched by 16 stages by external pins, and user can finely adjust the amount of correction of gain of input waveform.  Since this device operates with 3.3V single power supply and is equipped with 4 operation modes, ultralow power consumption can be realized by switching the device to appropriate operation mode according to operation of interface.

“THine has applied our signal conditioning technology to the problem of signal quality of high-speed transmission interface with CML used in the market to provide solution by a small chip for problem common to several types of interface.  “THCX222R05” adapted to CML high-speed transmission of 5Gbps provides information transmission for longer distance, transmission by thinner flexible cable, and transmission by cheaper cable.  In addition to provision of “THCX222R05,” THine will continue to expand lineup of redriver products for high-speed signal, and will contribute to increase added-value of products used by customers using V-by-One® HS and high-speed transmission interface with CML, and will provide solutions for meeting further needs of customers,” says Yasuhiro Takada, CEO of THine Electronics.

*1
Refers to quality of signal flowing in transmission line between transmitter end and receiver end.  Transmission line is typically printed board or cable.
*2
Transmission rate of USB3.1 Gen1 is 5Gbps, and transmission rate of DisplayPort v1.2 is 5.4Gbps.
*3
Method for compensating waveform components attenuated when being transmitted at signal transmitter and signal receiver sides to secure long-distance and high-speed signal transmission.  Three major methods include pre-emphasis and de-emphasis at transmitter side and equalizer at receiver side.  THCX222R05 includes equalizer.
