News THine Launches Paddle Card and Active Plug for USB3.1 Gen2 Active Cable

2018.07.27 Release

-Providing solutions for active cable and plug products for USB3.1 Gen2-

TOKYO (July 27, 2018) – THine Electronics, Inc. (JASDAQ: 6769), the global leader in high-speed serial interface and provider of mixed-signal LSI, today announces that THine has developed three paddle card products and three active plug products for USB3.1 Gen2 (transmission rate: 10Gbps) as new paddle card products (*1) for active cables (*2), “THSB-ACC” Series.  THine plans to deliver samples of the new products in August, 2018.

While THine already provides ultralow-power-consuming and general purpose redriver product “THCX222R10” to the market for improving signal integrity (*3) of CML high-speed interface with transmission rate of about 10Gbps, THine has developed three paddle card products for USB3.1 Gen2 active cable including small board that has “THCX222R10,” three types of connector of USB (Standard-A plug, Micro-B plug, and Type-CTM plug), and other necessary components.  These products can easily make Standard-A/Micro-B/ Type-CTM active cables for USB3.1 Gen2, which provides long-distance transmission solution.  Moreover, the new active plug products are signal compensators that compensate waveform of signals flowing in the USB connector (one of Standard-A plug, Micro-B plug, and Type-CTM) connected to the adapter and inputs/outputs the compensated signals to/from the connector.  In the active plug, THine’s general purpose redriver “THCX222R10” is mounted on the small board, and two USB connectors (plug and receptacle) and other necessary components are provided at the both ends of the board.  These products can easily make active plug that compensates waveform of USB3.1 Gen2 signals at any connecting point, which provides long-distance transmission solution and free lay-out.

The new products can be used for three types of USB connector, while USB-IF standardized USB Type-CTM with symmetrical design in 2014, enabling connection regardless of direction of host side or device side.  With this convenience and small size, USB Type-CTM is expected to be used as interface between devices for XR market, such as VR (virtual reality), AR (augmented reality), and MR (mixed reality) as well as for PC and mobile markets.

“The six new products are based on THine’s general purpose redriver “THCX222R10” incorporating THine’s signal-conditioning technology (*4).  Since peripheral circuits are also mounted on the board, the user can produce active cable and active plug for USB3.1 Gen2 in a short period of time.  In addition to provision of these products, THine will continue to expand lineup of redriver products handling high-speed signal, will contribute to increase added-value of customers’ products, and will provide solutions for meeting further needs of customers,” says Yasuhiro Takada, CEO of THine Electronics.

*1: Board between connector and cable for connecting cable to connector.
*2: Cable incorporating signal-conditioning function for compensating attenuated signal.
*3: Quality of signal flowing in transmission path between transmitter end and receiver end.  Transmission path is typically printed board or cable.
*4: Method for compensating waveform components attenuated when being transmitted at signal transmitter and signal receiver sides to secure long-distance and high-speed signal transmission.
