News THine Joins China Video Industry Association

2017.12.18 Release

TOKYO (December 18, 2017) – THine Electronics, Inc. (JASDAQ: 6769), the global leader in high-speed serial interface and provider of mixed-signal LSI, today announces that THine Electronics Shenzhen Co., Ltd., THine’s 100% sub-subsidiary, has joined China Video Industry Association (CVIA, *1), Chinese national first level industrial organization of consumer electronics.

CVIA has made considerable achievements in making industrial standards, market regulations, and policies in China.  As a member of CVIA, THine will participate in activities for making Chinese industrial standards in such areas as audio video equipment such as 8K TV, video monitoring system, and smart home.

Established in 1988 and formerly known as National TV Industry Association and Related Dedicated Parts Association established in 1979 (*2), CVIA is an industrial organization with legal personality approved by Ministry of Civil Affairs of China.  Members of CVIA have participated in making over seventy corporate standards and ten national standards in the past five years.

According to statistics and market forecast of CVIA, the number of users of smart TV (*3) is over 200 million and the number of internet TVs including smart TV and OTT box (*4) is over 260 million in China at the end of 2017.  The market’s expected average yearly growth rate toward 2020 is about 15%, and continued demand for consumer video equipment is expected.  Moreover, according to CVIA, main events in 2018 will be broadcast (in recording) by 4K image, 2022 Beijing Winter Olympic Games will be broadcast in 8K, and the market of large-size 8K TV will significantly grow.

THine has established V-by-One® US specification as a next-generation high-speed interface technology for 4K and 8K video images that follows THine’s high-speed interface technology V-by-One® HS, which is now used as interface in most of 4K TVs in the world as de facto standard.  V-by-One® US specification defines high-speed transmission rate of 16Gbps per lane at the maximum (16,000,000,000 bits per second), and high-speed transmission as quadruple as V-by-One® HS will be possible according to the specification.  In addition. THine has also established VBOCTM as an interface technology for image sensor cameras based on V-by-One® HS.  VBOCTM is an interface technology that provides more than tenfold transmission effective band as compared with an existing interface technology for transmitting images from an image sensor camera to a frame grabber, while securing compatibility of cables, connectors, and control communication protocol.  THine will participate in activities of CVIA in making Chinese industrial standards as a company that establishes new high-speed interface technologies.

“We are glad that THine has joined CVIA after technical presentation at Display Innovation China 2017.  THine has established two new high-speed interface technologies as a leading company of high-speed interface technology.  In the activities of CVIA, THine aims to contribute to innovation of video image market of China and the world through high-speed interface technologies such as V-by-One® US,” says Yasuhiro Takada, CEO of THine Electronics and THine Electronics Shenzhen.
