News THine Launches Paddle Card for Active Cable for USB3 Vision

2018.03.22 Release

-Providing solutions for active cable products for USB3 Vision-

TOKYO (March 22, 2018) – THine Electronics, Inc. (JASDAQ: 6769), the global leader in high-speed serial interface and provider of mixed-signal LSI, today announces that THine has started delivery of samples of paddle card (*1) for active cable (*2) for USB3 Vision (*3), “THSB-ACC” Series.  THine plans mass-production of the product in the 3rd quarter of 2018.

Application of IoT and A.I. as typified by Industry 4.0 to manufacturing sites to improve efficiency is accelerating growth of machine vision (*4) system market.  In addition to advancement of manufacturing line monitoring system from one- or two-dimensional measurement to three-dimensional measurement and requirement of high specifications such as automated guidance function of industrial robots, machine vision system is now used in wide range of applications such as clinical diagnosis and automation of surgery room in the field of healthcare, as well as traditional industries and manufacturing sites of electronics.

Among components that make machine vision system, smart camera using CMOS image sensor is fast-growing.  On the other hand, continuous advancement of CMOS image sensor and high specifications required for machine vision system require higher resolution of captured images, and high transmission rate and processing speed associated with increase in the volume of image data are necessary.  Moreover, application of machine vision system in wider industries requires the system to be installed in accordance with various site conditions, which leads to another issue of realizing machine vision system without restriction on layout.

In the field of machine vision, USB3 Vision is standardized as one interface for machine vision system realizing high-speed transmission.  Hardware (physical layer) handing electric signal as defined in USB3 Vision is the same as that of USB3.1 Gen1 standardized by USB Implementation Forum, Inc., and specifications for software such as camera control and image data transmission are defined for machine vision in USB3 Vision.  Therefore, while high-speed transmission of 5Gbps is possible with USB3 Vision, transmission distance is restricted to 5m as defined by physical layer of USB3.1 Gen1, and the problem of layout is not solved.

Paddle card for active cable for USB3 Vision, “THSB-ACC” Series, is a product in which THine’s ultralow-power-consuming and general purpose redriver “THCX222R05” and necessary peripheral components are mounted on small board.  The connector shape of the paddle card is USB Standard-A plug (THSB-ACC562) and USB Micro-B plug (THSB-ACC563).  These products make it easier to produce active cable for USB3 Vision and realize transmission of USB3 Vision signal for more than 5m.

“‘THSB-ACC’ Series is based on THine’s general purpose redriver ‘THCX222R05’ incorporating THine’s signal-conditioning technology.  Since peripheral circuits are integrated on the board, the user can produce active cable for USB3 Vision in a short period of time.  In addition to provision of ‘THSB-ACC’ Series, THine will continue to expand lineup of redriver products handling high-speed signal, will contribute to increase added-value of customers’ products, and will provide solutions for meeting further needs of customers,” says Yasuhiro Takada, CEO of THine Electronics.
