TOKYO (December 11, 2017) – THine Electronics, Inc. (JASDAQ: 6769), the global leader in high-speed serial interface and provider of mixed-signal LSI, today announces establishment of THine’s original interface technology for image sensor cameras, VBOCTM (Video By One Cable/Connector for Camera).  VBOCTM is an interface technology that provides more than tenfold transmission effective band as compared with an existing interface technology for transmitting images from an image sensor camera to a frame grabber (*1), while securing compatibility of cables, connectors, and control communication protocol.

Nowadays, IoT and Industry 4.0 are often applied to manufacturing sites to improve work efficiency.  While images are more often analyzed by AI, information density required for images has increased to improve analysis accuracy.  In the automated manufacturing process realized by machine vision (*2) system, while image sensor cameras as image acquisition means provide clearer images accompanied by higher resolution of image sensors, transmission and processing speed needs to be increased because of increased volume of image data.

While THine’s high-speed interface technology V-by-One® HS is now used as interface in most of 4K televisions in the world as de facto standard, THine has established VBOCTM as an interface technology for image sensor cameras based on V-by-One® HS.  VBOCTM can expand the transmission effective band, which has been 2.04Gbps at the maximum with one standard cable compliant with Camera Link Standard (*3) commonly used in machine vision as one interface between an image sensor camera and a frame grabber, to 25.6Gbps at the maximum.  Moreover, since connectors and control communication protocol compliant with Camera Link Standard can be used without change, it is possible to change interface system without burden on users.  Furthermore, it provides new camera connection where four image sensor cameras are connected in daisy chain by one cable compliant with Camera Link Standard, and data transmission over 10m is also possible.
