THine unveils advanced interface technologies, V-by-One(TM), for car multi-media markets

THine Electronics, Inc. (JASDAQ:6769), the global leader in mixed-signal LSIs for flat panel displays and flat televisions, unveiled today advanced interface technologies,
V-by-One(TM)(*1), for emerging automotive infotainment markets.

THine has developed advanced interface technologies that enable automotive manufactures to reduce the number of information cables drastically in order to support interfaces for car infotainment under the trends of rapidly expanding data transmissions in automotive systems.

Automotive markets have seen rapid penetration of information terminal equipments driven by demands of car navigation systems and electronic toll collection (ETC) systems. It is expected that automotive information terminal markets will expand up to roughly 30% of all existing automotive vehicles 2008. Since automotive systems become more intelligent under ITS (intelligent transporting system) platform, car navigation systems and cameras loaded on vehicles will become integrated multi-media systems for car infotainment. Digital data transmission is expected to spread rapidly in accordance with penetration of car infotainment.

THine's new technologies, V-by-One(TM), enable just one pair of differential signaling cables to transmit high speed pixel data between a long distance while digital data transmission of monitors on vehicles generally require 24 cables for data transmission and 3 for control signal transmission. THine has developed V-by-One(TM) technologies by fusion of its accumulated high-speed serial interface technologies such as LVDS(*2) and CDR(*3) technologies.

After volume production of V-by-One(TM) technologies, automotive manufactures are expected to be able to reduce the number of cables for digital data transmission by 90% and more and cut costs of expensive connectors as well as decrease parts lists. THine plans to start volume production from the third quarter in 2005. Since V-by-One(TM) technologies use CMOS process, it can achieve superior cost-performance and options to integrate other functions easily.

V-by-One(TM) can be applied to other areas that face space constraints such as flat televisions, large flat panel displays, cellular phones, industrial manufacturing, and medical electronics. THine will explore application markets of V-by-One(TM) widely.

THine will show demonstrations of these new technologies at the 11th World Congress on ITS(*4) to be held October 18-24 in Nagoya, Aichi, Japan and also at FPD International 2004 from October 20-22 in Yokohama.

(*1) V-by-One(TM): V-by-One(TM) is a trade mark owned by THine Electronics, Inc.
(*2)LVDS: Low Voltage Differential Signaling is a high-speed differential signaling transmission that is widely used in pixel data transmission in flat panel displays such as LCD
(*3) CDR: Clock and Data Recovery.
(*4) the World Congress on ITS is truly international congress that provide an ideal forum for business leaders, professionals, and many citizens from across the world to mingle and experience views. There will be an array of events and unique presentations sure to satisfy the palate of everyone in the IT & ITS sectors.
