THine launches its new RF-IC series, THiRFSTATION(TM), for cellular infrastructure
THine Electronics, Inc. (JASDAQ: 6769), a global leader in mixed-signal LSI, announced today to enter cellular infrastructure markets, launching its new RF-IC series, THiRFSTATION(TM)(*1). Two products of THG6101 and THG6402 have been distributed under sample status before other line-ups that THine plans to launch in a year.
Systems of cellular base stations, requiring much higher specification and performance than cell phone handsets, have generally been designed by combining various expensive GaAs-based RF-ICs with single functions since GaAs-based process hardly allows integration of several functions in the same ICs.
Currently RF-ICs face difficulties to meet cellular infrastructure markets' requests in cost performance under such trend that controlling systems have rapidly become complicated to support high-speed data communication under the system replacement toward the third and/or the fourth generation.
THine, utilizing its original mixed-signal technologies, can supply RF-IC solutions with required high-performance for cellular base stations and, in addition, with flexible and short-term integration of IPs (intellectual properties), including advanced controllers, by using SiGe BiCMOS-based process. The system vender of cellular base stations become able to procure suitable RF-ICs in a short-term selection and reduce resources for controlling software, resulting in lowering system costs. THine has been distributing engineering samples of two new products of THG6101 and THG6402, planning to launch following line-ups to contribute customers' cost reduction in cellular base stations and their resource minimization in software.
THG6101 is a unique phase locked loop product or PLL that can automatically read frequency data recorded in external EEPROM(*2) and make PLL lock-up actions to some required frequency without external program -controlling systems that are generally required to usual PLL products. In addition, THG6101 is the world first product that can act in a wide range of frequency from 1MHz at the minimum to 2GHz at the maximum. Furthermore, it achieves low phase noise optimized to cellular base stations, for instance, -95dBc/Hz with an offset of 1 kHz at 500MHz. THine plans the volume production of THG6101 in the first quarter in 2005 with an expected quantity of approximately two hundred thousand pieces monthly.
THG6402 is a buffer amplifier product with a wide range activity in frequency up to 3.2 GHz. It also has a unique structure of independent power down circuits in order to reduce consumption currency below 1μA in power down mode and put its buffer amplifier on or off at high speed. THG6402 and THG6101 can be used in the same base station system. THine plans the volume production from December in 2004 with an expected quantity of approximately five hundred thousand pieces monthly.
