THine unveils high-speed SerDes interface technologies for full HD televisions

Tokyo (October 26, 2009) – THine Electronics, Inc. (JASDAQ:6769), the global leader in high-speed serial interface and provider of mixed-signal LSI for flat panel displays, announced today that THine unveils industry’s first 6Gbps SerDes interface technologies for full HD televisions and visual related markets. This new V-by-One® technology can reduce internal interface cables of full HD televisions to just one pair.

Image of V-by-One® Application for full HD television and contribution of cable reduction

Current full HD television sets generally have twelve LVDS cables between picture engines and display panels, connecting by 0.75Gbps per cable. THine has developed V-by-One® technologies for television markets and offers high speed solutions with lower costs and EMI for long distance since 2006. The new 6Gbps technologies achieve eight times faster performance and can innovate internal interface systems of full HD televisions. THine plans to launch new products with new V-by-One® technologies in two years. Related part counts can be reduced by about 20% and total system costs are expected to decrease drastically.

In addition, by transmitting both pixel data and clock signals through the same pair cable utilizing Clock Data Recovery (CDR) technology, new V-by-One® technologies drastically improves the timing skew between signals on the different pair cables and achieves higher picture quality and lower EMI. As a result of these innovations, THine has achieved the one pair performance for full HD televisions that is expected to decrease costs of cables, lowering EMI, and solving skew issues.

Effects on lowering energy consumption are also expected since this new V-by-One® technologies enables to simplify circuit structure.

Innovation Trend on Internal Interface of Full HD Television

THine will deliver new values of interface technologies, corresponding to the customers’ request for lowering total costs, higher picture qualities, and thinner solutions with space saving technologies since worldwide trends of terminating analog broadcasting require these features that new V-by-One® technologies can contribute significantly.

THine plans to expand the application markets of V-by-One® HS in order to deliver values of higher speed, lower space, lower costs, more noise tolerance, and long-distance transmission for customers of DTV markets and many visual data related markets.
