News THine announces establishment of V-by-One®US technical specification, the advanced next-generation high-speed interface technology for 4K and 8K images

2017.03.29 Release
V-by-One®US will support transmission of images in 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games and other high-resolution camera images with the minimum*1 number of cables

TOKYO (March 29th, 2017) – THine Electronics, Inc. (JASDAQ: 6769), the global leader in high-speed serial interface and image processing and a provider of mixed-signal LSIs, today announces that THine has established V-by-One®US technical specification as a next-generation high-speed interface technology that follows V-by-One®HS technical specification, which is the de facto standard of interface inside 4K TVs.
THine has led interface technology inside high-resolution image devices such as high-definition television.  For example, the technical specification of 30-bit (1,070,000,000 colors) LVDS*2 that is generally used for today’s high-definition television market has been established by THine and THine has put the first commercial products into the market.  Moreover, in most of 4K televisions in the world, V-by-One®HS, which is THine’s high-speed interface technology, has been utilized as the de facto standard up to today.  As these examples show, THine has led interface technology inside devices.
In consideration of increased needs of resolution of 8K and more in high-resolution devices such as television toward 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games, THine has established V-by-One®US technical specification as a next-generation high-speed interface specification.

V-by-One®US technology has significantly improved THine’s original high-speed transmission technology that THine has gained through V-by-One®HS technology, and realizes transmission rate of 16Gbps (16,000,000,000 bits per second) at a maximum per lane.  That is, V-by-One®US technology realizes transmission rate of 4 times as fast as V-by-One®HS that supports today’s 4K images.
With introduction of V-by-One®US specification, it becomes possible to realize 8K image systems with the minimum number of cables within the existing information transmission technologies without increasing the number of cables as compared with transmission of 4K images.  In addition, with application of V-by-One®US specification, reduction in cost of cables and connectors is expected also in 4K image systems.

Comparison* between V-by-One®US and existing interface technology
Interface technology Speed per lane Cables for 4K image transmission with 60Hz Cables for 8K image transmission with 60Hz
V-by-One®US 16Gbps 2 pairs 8 pairs
V-by-One®HS 4Gbps 8 pairs 32 pairs
LVDS approximately 0.5Gbps 48 pairs 192 pairs
* The number may be different depending on the actual video system structure.

“THine has established technical specification of V-by-One®US as a new high-speed interface specification.  THine will release ASSP products incorporating V-by-One®US technology targeting the first half of 2018, and will provide additional values for strongly supporting 8K images in 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games and high-resolution cameras.  THine will also develop technology and products that enable long-distance transmission with optical fiber incorporating V-by-One®US technology.  THine continues to aim to contribute to our customers and innovation of video image market as a leading company of high-speed interface technology,” says Yasuhiro Takada, CEO of THine Electronics.
